Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s all about vintage with a fresh and fun colour palette, I love it! I love vintage-y things in general. I love the story behind these things, the memories they invoke. One of my favourite possessions is an old hand knit sweater that my one Grandmother knit for my other Grandmother. It’s as old-fashioned as tea (as my Grandmother would say LOL) but the fact that it holds memories of both Grandmothers just seems to make it more cozy and comforting than all the other sweaters I own!

Speaking of my Grandmothers, here is some “Classic Beauty” word art for you all, I hope you like it!

Hi everyone! Welcome to my stop on the ScrapMatters Birthday Blog Train! You have arrived from Plum Dumpling Designs.

I love birthdays, and each one is special in it’s own way. But one especially memorable birthday for me, was my son’s 8th birthday. He chose to have an “Echo Age” Birthday. Their premise is One Meaningful Cause, One Meaningful Gift. My mom had just been diagnosed with cancer and it was definitely on all of our minds, including my son’s. He chose to donate half of his birthday money to Camp Ooch, a camp for children with cancer. I was so proud of him for choosing to do that at such a young age. My mom was in tears when she heard who he had donated to. It was such a special birthday. We had a big party for him and for his One Meaningful Gift, he got a new bike:

Moments That Matter – the ScrapMatters iNSD Blog Train!!

Hi everyone!! Welcome to the next stop on the ScrapMatters [inter]National Scrapbooking Day blog train. This train has stops ALL OVER THE WORLD!!! You have probably just come from Courtney (aka cnscraps) blog. That's the stop before this one. And now you've arrived in Ontario, Canada at my (canadianmommy) blog!

Our NSD mega-collab at SM this weekend is called "Moments that Matter" and the whole theme of our celebration is all about those moments in our lives that really matter. At each stop you'll find a story about a Moment that Matters along with a freebie!! There are TONS of stops on this blog train, so you can pick up a LOT of goodies!!

The 'moment that matters' I've chosen to share is . . . the birth of our first child!

My husband and I had pretty charmed life you could say. We met in high school. Went away to college together. Got married a couple of months after graduation. A year later we decided to start our family and two months later we were expecting. After a very healthy and stress-free pregnancy, our son Ben was born on June 24, 2001. Until this point I don’t think I had ever had a single worry. Not a real worry anyway. Well this is the point that life as we knew it, changed.

I had a really long labour that ended up in an emergency c-section. There were complications during the c-section and things got pretty scary. By the end of it all I was just so worried about him. I remember thinking that I didn’t care what I had to go through or what had to be done. I just wanted him safely in my arms.

He finally got there, in my arms. Everything that happened before that moment was completely worth it after seeing his perfect little face. But to be honest, the worry has never left me. Since that day, I worry constantly. Is he eating enough? Is he sleeping enough? What if he falls? Will he be okay at school? He’s playing outside and I can’t see him! Ack! I was starting to feel completely neurotic and then I read this quote:

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” – Elizabeth Stone

There is so much truth in that! I now know that the worry will always be there. My life has changed, I have children. I will always worry about them. I will probably never have a moment’s peace again. But it is and always will be worth it.

So here is my photo, of the moment my heart started to forevermore, “walk around outside my body”.

(Don’t laugh at the messy hair and exhausted face! LOL)

What am I doin’? (and a freebie!)

Hi everyone!! It’s been awhile since I showed you some LO’s so thought I’d post some today. I’ve been scrapping up a storm since joining ADSR Season 5. It’s a blast, if you have never participated in it, give it a try next year, you’ll have a ton of fun and get awesome prizes!!

This was our first challenge…..we had to journal about our race partner:

That’s Emilee!! We met on the ScrapMatters CT and we were both looking for someone to race with…..she rocks!

Our second challenge was based on 5, we had to journal “5 things I love about…”, 5 pics, 5 of one type of element, 5 alphas/fonts and one of our pics had to have the number 5 in it.

Our third challenge was to use a pic with selective colouring:

And we just completed our fourth challenge, we had to make ATC cards, one about something we love, one about our race partner. I had never tried these before but they were actually a lot of fun to make.

There was so much drama over this challenge, people hating ATC, people mad at the people that hated ATC…..LOL It was kind of funny really. I was stressed just reading it all but once I tried them it was not bad at all. They are just like mini layouts….the trend is to do them altered art style but that isn’t a requirement.

I have totally fallen off the P365 wagon……I keep forgetting to take daily pics, I think I remember about half of the time, LOL. I am going to have to rethink this project….maybe P52?

I hosted my first Saturday Special Challenge at ScrapMatters yesterday!! You can check it out here. The challenge was to journal on a path, I had a blast making the tutorial for it…….try it out, I would to see what you come up with! Here is the page I finished for it:

I also got time to go to a speed scrap this week!! woo hoo!! Here is my finished page:

I love the chat in a speed scrap, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with what everyone is typing but it’s definitely entertaining.

I have also been glued to my TV screen this week, watching the Olympics. My kids are seriously obsessed. My ds even has been appointed the speed skating reporter at his school. He’s taking it very seriously, carrying around a clipboard with all the stats and looking very official! I did up a LO to commemorate my little fanatical kiddos:

Those stitches are a new release from Chelle’s Creations this week….I just love them!!

I even had time to scrap a pic of the Valentines cards I got from the three loves of my life….

How’s that for a week of scrapping goodness? My bum is permanently fixed to my computer chair now but it’s been fun!! LOL

Day 1: We went to the Madarin for New Years Dinner. It was packed, crazy packed. But good food. The waitress was a little bit nasty but that was the only downfall. The kids loved getting to eat whatever they wanted to from the buffet. McKayla basically skipped right to dessert. LOL Ben ate a ton of seafood! He is so adventurous when it comes to eating. Especially for an eight year old. He even tried calamari and loved it! He tried to convince me to try some.....but I'm not so adventurous, LOL.

Day 2: McKayla's dancing was still closed for the holidays so we all got to go to Ben's basketball today. He did awesome! He sunk two baskets and his team tied the game. That was quite an accomplishment since they've lost them all so far. LOL I had to sneak out the camera to take his picture. Ben insists that when the camera is there he doesn't score, he thinks it's a bad luck charm. Well obviously as long as he doesn't know it's there, it's just fine!

Day 3: I caught McKayla putting on a little rock concert in her bedroom. For Christmas she got a stage and microphone/headset from my brother and sister-in-law. She looked so cute rockin' out amidst all her barbies and stuffed animals....

Day 4: Back to school! It was horrible trying to get the kids up this morning! They slept in a lot over the holidays. After they dragged themselves out of bed I just had to take pics of them, half asleep, eating their breakfast. They looked exactly like I felt, it was back to work today for me too!

Day 5: "Mommy, want me to show you my tapioca?" I must have looked as confused as I was because McKayla immediately started explaing, "Mommy! Remember? Tapioca! Where you do this......" That's when I figured out she was talking about yoga. She had been watching me do yoga on the Wii Fit. She makes me laugh, what a cutie pie.

Day 6: First homework of 2010. Multiplication facts. Some things never change..... 'nuff said. LOL

Day 7: I signed up for the secret santa at ScrapMatters and my gift came today. My ss was Michelle of MickeyB Designs. She sent a beautiful journal that she had recovered and a matching pen. The journal was titled, "Ha! Our Kid's Funniest Moments". (I will have to add the Tapioca story to it). She also sent Dove Mint Chocolates and Reese' Peanut Butter Christmas Trees!! I was so excited. I can't stop touching the journal, it has definitely inspired me to try some hybrid stuff. and mmmm.....chocolate......

So that's week one! As for my other project Fiona goals...we won't discuss that right now. *sigh* All I can say is it was REALLY easy to excercise while I was off of work. Now that I'm back, well...check back next week when I am sure to bring you better news. Just need to work on my scheduling a bit. LOL

Project 365/ Resolutions Update and Another Freebie!!

Hi everyone! Well I am here to update you on all my resolutions....

I have been taking my P365 pics, daily, as promised. Maybe someone can help me out though, am I supposed to blog each pic everyday, or wait til the end of the week, scrap the page with seven pics on it, and then blog about it? Anyone know? Hmmm...

As for the other resolutions, I have organised one room so far this week, my daughter's. Her room was a crazy mess, and we still hadn't opened all her Christmas present boxes. So I switched up her room a bit to give her more space, and opened the rest of the boxes that needed opened, and found space for it all. It's a work in progress but it is def. better than it was. And it makes me feel better to look at it. LOL

I have excersised for one half hour each day since Christmas!! Well except for yesterday. I have a cold and actually had a fever with it yesterday. So no excersise yesterday, but otherwise I've been good. I've even lost 1.2 kg. I should look that up and see what that is in pounds. Cuz I don't have a clue about kgs.....

I have been eating somewhat healthy, but still making my way through all the Christmas chocolate so until that is gone, I still need to work on this resolution. I think I still have about half of a Terry's Chocolate Orange left. LOL

I have been getting lots of sleep. But the kids have really been cooperating and sleeping in late in the morning. So I've been able to stay up late and still get my eight hours. Reality starts tomorrow; back to school, back to work. I will have to watch my bedtime tonight....

And that leaves me with my resolution to drink more water. *Aargh!* I can't!! This is my hardest resolution. I just don't like it! I think I spend most of my life dehydrated. I just don't drink very much. And when I do, it's tea. And it's so freaking cold outside today, I can't imagine drinking water right now! So I have not been good with this resolution. Any tips for me? I think most people like water, I'm the only weirdo who doesn't....... *sigh* Still need to work on this one.

Class starts tomorrow!!

Journaling is definitely something I struggle with, so many times I end up leaving it out. But I want my kids to look back at my pages and instead of just seeing a picture, I want them to see a story, an emotion, my voice. I can't wait to get started tomorrow! Check it out:

Goals and a Freebie!

So it's that time of year, the time for resolutions and goal setting. I've been thinking a lot about mine. This past year has been one of the most stressful years....scratch that, THE most stressful year of my life. While dealing with all that has happened to my family over the last year, I've seen myself get less and less organized, less and less healthy, eating more, sleeping less, and often forgetting to look on the bright side. I truly have so much to be thankful for, but for the first time in my life I have been concentrating more on all the bad stuff that has been happening. And that is so not me, I am usually the eternal optimist. So I want the old me back. Plus a bit more organized, that's never been one of my strong points. LOL So that being said, here are my goals for 2010, written for you all to see.......now I can't back down from them right?

1. I have 8 rooms in my house....I will organize two per week, that way every month, each room will be organized.
2. I will get 8 hours of sleep each night, whether I like it or not, LOL.
3. I will eat healthier, drink more water, take a daily multi vitamin.
4. I will excersise for half an hour, each day - more if I'm having fun, ha ha!
5. I will participate in Project 365, I love to scrap, and what a great reminder of the blessings I have.

I'm going to go out tomorrow and getting a journal, to keep my progress notes in, I'm calling 2010 - "Project Fiona". I will keep you all updated, wish me luck, LOL. What are your resolutions for this year? Want some word strips to get you started?

One Lonely Layout

Well, I only got to scrap one layout this week.....one! Christmas must be coming soon because I find myself crazy busy all of a sudden! LOL Want to see my one lonely layout? Here it is:

I've scrapped this picture before but I decided to redo it and I love it now! What made me decide to redo it you may ask.....well I'll tell you! Chelle has got a brand new thing going on over at ScrapMatters. Starting in January, she is going to have a class on journaling!! How cool is that? I can't wait for it to start, journaling is definitely something I struggle with, so many times I end up leaving it out. Wow!! Thank goodness it's Friday, I had such a non-productive week. Seriously! Maybe it was too much turkey last weekend or that fact that it is snowing in October(!!) but I hardly got anything done at all, and that includes scrapping! eek!! Now that you have made it all the way down here I have some VERY exciting news!! My aunt just had a beautiful baby boy!!! Hence all the baby boy favour bags/ invites/ etc. LOL. His name is David John Stephens and he's is just PERFECT!!! He was born 3 weeks early and weighed 6 lbs 14 oz! I could just look at him all day long, he's just so cute. Here's some pics of him when he's only 15 minutes old!! Yup! I was there when he was born!! So exciting!

Scrapping Survivor

Well it is Survivor Season 1, at least over at Ginger Scraps and I am a contestant. This is week one and we received a beautiful kit to scrap with. Check it out:

Awesome eh? Our challenge this week is to scrap a page with this kit. Not a hard challenge by any means when you see what we have to work with! Here is my challenge submission:

Day 11, 12 & 13!

I got SO behind in my Jessica Sprague projects!! But the beauty of it is that it is at your own pace so it was no problem to spend this evening catching up. We did a project on selective colouring (I had no idea how to do this technique I've always used another method, this way was WAY better!), creating storyboards, and using clipping masks to make a collage. Want to see mine? Well I'll show you!

I love my storyboard but I adore this collage!! I'm definitely going to print and frame it. Such a cool project!!

One more day of the class, I've loved it SO much, if you ever get a chance to take one of Jessica's classes I highly recommend you do! I've learned so much and her tutorial's are so user friendly.

Day 10

Wow! Day 10 of Jessica Sprague's class already!! Today was sort of culminative. We learned how to make our own clipping mask, then added texture, a png, text, and edge burning to our photo. I love how it turned out!!

I especially love that I can now do rounded corners, could never figure those out before!! Something so simple eh? LOL Well see you all tomorrow!!

Day 9

Today is Day 9!! Today Miss Jessica Sprague taught us about using the gradient tool and layer masks with adjustment layers to "burn" the edges of our photos. It makes a very subtle change but really makes your photo pop. Check it out:

Well today was the start of week 2 of Jessica Sprague's class. We learned how to add text to our photos (and also how to download and install new fonts). Check mine out:

This class is really making me rethink my photos. I have never really edited my pics much before, besides the basic "getting rid of red eye" I haven't done much to them. I'm having so much fun playing around with them now, I can see it getting addictive! LOL Anyway, thanks for looking, see you tomorrow!!

I just heard (and signed up) for a free 4 week photography course!! The course is taught by photographer John Greengo from the PBS series Art Wolfe’s Travels to the Edge.
It Says:

Day 6

Today was Day 6 of Jessica Sprague's class and today we learned about TTV (Through The Viewfinder) photos. We learned how to "fake" this super cool photography tool. Then for our project we had to combine the TTV with some of the other techniques we've learned so far. This is what I came up with:

I combined the TTV with brown paper texture, hand tinting and some brush work. I love how it turned out!! Looks so vintage but it was taken in 2006!!

Day 5!!

Yesterday was day 5 of the Jessica Sprague class and we learned how to use textures! We applied three different textures and blending mode then added a frame for our finished project. Check it out:

I'm seriously loving this class!! I've never done textures well, and now I've got it ALL figured out! LOL

So today was day 4 and we learned how to use clipping masks. I already knew how to do this one but we got this cool grunge mask to play with so that was definitely an added bonus. Sorry this post is so short but I'm off to bed cuz it's LATE!! So see you in a few hours with day 5. :)

Ooooooh!! I love what we learned today!!! We learned how to use adjustment layers and blending modes to make our pics look antique and hand tinted. Then we used our brush tool to add some stars.....so much fun!! I'm seriously loving this class, I might have to sign up for another one!! Check out today's project:

Jessica Sprague Class Day 2

Today was day 2, we were learning how to load, use, resize, and recolour brushes. I haven't used brushes very much so this class was great. Check out my finished "project".

Have you ever taken any of Jessica's other classes? This one is great, so simple to understand. I have sort of taught myself photoshop over the last few months but I love learning all these little tricks and tips to do things easier and faster and of course learning stuff I had no clue how to do before. If you have taken any of her other classes, leave me a comment, I'd love to hear what you thought and would recommend.......
